Dixon to Present "Salon, Stage and Spiritual" Piano Recital at FSU

Frostburg State University Associate Professor of Music Joan DeVee Dixon will present a program titled “Salon, Stage and Spiritual” on Sunday, April 4, at 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center's Pealer Recital Hall. The program revolves around three of the piano’s historical uses – as an instrument played in the court or salon (living room or parlor), the concert stage and the church. The recital is free and open to the public.

Dixon has conducted extensive concert tours of the United States, England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Japan. Her eight compact discs recordings feature psalms for organ and spirituals for piano and are frequently heard on National Public Radio. She is a four-time recipient of the Maryland State Arts Council’s prestigious Individual Artist Award.

The Music for the Salon segment will feature works by Haydn, Debussy, Dvorak, Chaminade and Joplin. Music for the Stage will include pieces by Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Gershwin. The spiritual section of the program will include works by Bach, Donizetti and Emma Lou Diemer.

The event is sponsored by the FSU Piano Festival. For more information, call (301) 687-4115.
