Early-Season Struggles Continue for Women's Basketball in Loss to Geneva

BETHANY, WV — Amanda Despoy scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Division II Geneva College to a 78-44 win over Frostburg State in the first round of the Bethany (W.Va.) College Holiday Invitational Friday night.

The Golden Tornadoes (3-3) jumped out to an early 12-2 lead that the Bobcats could not overcome, and Geneva eventually led, 43-16, at halftime.

FSU shot just 6-of-24 (25 percent) from the field and committed 22 turnovers in the first half.

The Bobcats (0-6) picked up their game in the second stanza, but were outscored 35-28.

FSU hurt its cause with 10-of-22 shooting from the free throw line and 35 turnovers in the game.

Junior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) scored a game-high 16 points and added nine rebounds and five steals.

Sophomore Jimmien Strong (Seat Pleasant, Md./DuVal) had a solid game off the bench with seven points and five rebounds.

Truly Norman had 12 points and seven steals for Geneva, while Lindsay Barr and Chrissy Valentine added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Bobcats will face either Bethany or Messiah in the consolation game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
