Earth Day 2007 at FSU

The Sierra Student Coalition of Frostburg State University will host the Fourth Annual Earth Day Celebration on Wednesday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. This year, the Earth Day Celebration will be in honor Dr. Jonathan C. Gibralter, Frostburg State’s 14th President, on the occasion of his inauguration.

The event will take place in the Chesapeake Dining Hall in the campus Lower Quad and will feature educational presentations, Scales and Tales demonstrations, games, prizes and food. Featured music will be by The Motet, for whose performance energy harnessed by wind power was placed into the FSU electric grid for the evening.

The presentation topics for the morning session include green roofs, acid rain, mining using mountaintop removal techniques and the plan to establish a model small-scale solar/wind energy project on campus in the near future. The outdoor festivities will pause from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. for the inaugural ceremony.

In keeping with the Earth Day spirit, all programs, invitations, and advertisements for the Earth Day Celebration and the President’s Inauguration have been printed on recycled paper.

All events are open to the public. Community members of all ages are invited to join in a day of environmental awareness and fun. For more information about Earth Day events, call Patrick O’Brien at (301) 687- 7598.
