Fabian Returns to Bobcat Football Coaching Staff

FROSTBURG, MD - Frostburg State head football coach Rubin Stevenson recently announced the addition of Jerry Fabian to the Bobcat staff.

Fabian returns for his second stint as an assistant coach with Frostburg State in 2003. Fabian served as the team’s defensive line coach from 1996-99.

"I am very excited about the Jerry's returning to the coaching staff," Stevenson said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and a great work ethic, and his presence will not only help our players but our young coaches as well."

Fabian began his football career at the University of South Dakota at Springfield in 1981, where he started at outside linebacker and earned an associate’s degree in construction technology.

Fabian broke into the coaching ranks in 1990 as the defensive coordinator at Everett (Pa.) High School, where he served until 1994.

He then joined the Frostburg State coaching staff in the spring of 1996 and was the Bobcats’ defensive line coach for four seasons.

During his tenure, the Bobcats compiled a 30-11 record, made two ECAC appearances and recorded an impressive 120 sacks.

FSU won the ECAC South Region championship in 1996, and the Bobcats ranked fourth in the nation in total defense and seventh in scoring defense. FSU compiled 36 sacks and 132 tackles for loss that year.

The Bobcats then ranked 10th in rushing defense and 13th in total defense in 1997, while the 1999 team won the inaugural Atlantic Central Football Conference title and advanced to the ECAC Southwest Championship game.

FSU led the league in sacks and finished second in both scoring and rushing defense, and three defensive linemen were named to the All-ACFC team.

Fabian then moved on to Division I-AA Samford University for the 2000 and 2001 seasons, where he served as defensive ends coach before switching to mentor the outside linebackers. He also assisted with the Bulldog kickoff, punt and return teams.

Fabian, who returned to Everett (Pa.) High School last season and coached the defensive line, has also worked numerous summer camps, including the Merril Hoge Football Camp, the Art Monk Football Camp and the Penn State Football Camp.

He is seeking his master’s degree in education from Frostburg State.
