Faust Reaches 1,000-Point Plateau in Leading Women's Basketball Past Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, PA — Junior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) recorded 25 points and 14 rebounds and became just the 11th player in FSU women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau as Frostburg State edged host Ursinus, 69-66, Monday night at Helfferich Hall.

Faust, who notched her third straight double-double, sealed the win with a free throw with 33 seconds left to give her exactly 1,000 career points. She sank 9-of-16 attempts from the field and added 7-of-10 shooting from the free throw line.

The Bobcats (5-11) battled the Bears through a tight first half that featured eight lead changes. FSU led for most of the last 10 minutes of the opening stanza, taking a 35-30 lead on a Faust jumper with 1:10 left before intermission.

Ursinus (5-10) used consecutive baskets to close to within one, but Bobcat junior Jonee Jones (McConnellsburg, Pa./McConnellsburg) converted a layup as time expired to give the visitors a narrow 37-34 lead at halftime.

Frostburg State continued to hold Ursinus off through the opening moments of the second half before the Bears used a 10-0 run to take a 52-47 advantage at the 10:29 mark. However, the Bobcats returned the favor with a 10-0 spurt of their own.

Faust sank a pair of free throws to start the run, and juniors Christina Bleivik (Houston, Pa./Bartlett) and Holly Myers (York, Pa./West York) sank back-to-back three-pointers before freshman Sara Schumacher (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) capped the streak with a short jumper to put FSU ahead, 57-52.

Schumacher finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds and a career-high 4 assists.

A 7-0 Ursinus run later gave the hosts a 61-59 advantage with 4:09 to play, but the Bobcats answered once again with a 7-0 spurt to move in front 66-61 with 1:42 remaining. Faust then hit three free throws in the final 56 seconds to secure FSU's second straight victory.

Myers enjoyed a solid all-around game, finishing with 11 points, 7 assists, 6 steals and 4 rebounds, while Bleivik added 11 points.

Junior Tiffany Parker (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) recorded 10 points and 5 assists as the Bobcats had a season-high five players score in double digits.

Hussey led Ursinus with 22 points, while senior Katie Shearer added 15 points and 9 rebounds. The Bears hit just 7-of-16 free throws and committed 18 turnovers.

Frostburg State will host La Roche College in a key Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game Wednesday at 6 p.m.
