Ferguson Captures 100-Meter Dash at Mary Washington Relays

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Junior Maria Ferguson (Fairmount Heights, Md./Laurel) captured the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.46 to highlight a strong showing by the Frostburg State men's and women's track and field teams at last weekend's Mary Washington College Battleground Relays.

Ferguson met the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held May 23-25 at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.

She also joined freshman Lynnea Finch (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin), freshman Monica Ayeni (Hyattsville, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and junior Serena Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler) for a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay in 50.20.

Wheeler was also third in the 100-meter dash in 12.79 for the Bobcats, who placed third in the sprint medley relay in 1:57.20 and took fourth in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:10.80.

Junior Inga Olsen (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run in 21:47.20, and sophomore Katy Eads (West Point, Iowa/Central Lee) was fifth in the 10,000-meter run in 45:47.80

Sophomore Trista Smith (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) finished 11th in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 106-2.5.

On the men's side, sophomore Randy Belt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Patuxent) placed third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.90 and was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.80.

He was also a member of the 4x100-meter relay which placed fourth in 44.02 as well as the 4x400-meter relay which finished fifth in 3:26.20.

Sophomore Patrick Malone (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) was third in the javelin with a distance of 179-4. Junior Tyque McCarthy (Bowie, Md./Central) was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.37, while freshman Greg Lambert (Columbia, Md./Hammond) was fifth in 11.44.

Sophomore Travis Bouldin (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) placed eighth in the high jump with a mark of 5-10.

Freshman Terrell Hayes (Rockville, Md./Wheaton) enjoyed a solid meet, finishing 15th in the discus (195-5) and 17th in the hammer throw (94-6). Both marks are personal-bests.

Junior Mike Replogle (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) was seventh in the 10,000-meter run in 35:33.40 and sophomore Jonathan Masse (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) was 10th in 38:17.90.

The Bobcat men also placed fifth in the sprint medley relay with a time of 3:42.20.

"Overall, we did an excellent job," said first-year head coach Felix Moreno. "It was a warm day, which is something our athletes are not used to yet. We continue to improve each week, and I am looking forward to an excellent outdoor season."

The Bobcats will compete in the Wheeling Jesuit Invitational on Saturday in Wheeling, W.Va.
