Ferguson Qualifies for Second National Championship Final

ST. PAUL, MN — Frostburg State junior <>BMaria Ferguson (Fairmount Heights, Md./Laurel) tied her own school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.14 seconds Friday evening to qualify for the finals in the event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held at Macalester College.

Ferguson will now compete in the national championship finals in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes on Saturday.

She advanced to the 200-meter dash title race by posting a school-record time of 24.71 seconds in Thursday's qualifying heats. She eclipsed the former Frostburg State mark of 24.89 seconds set by Betty Barnes in 1990.

Ferguson, who earned All-America honors with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash at last year's NCAA Championships, will run the 100 tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. followed by the 200 at 4:20 p.m.
