Field Hockey Loses on Road to Villa Julie

Stevenson, MD — Frostburg State fell to host Villa Julie College, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon. Villa Julie (6-9) used two first-half goals and held on to beat the Bobcats with strong defense.

The Mustangs started the scoring in the 13th minute when Dawn McFarland scored a goal to give them a 1-0 lead. Morgan Feehery then scored in the 24th minute off an assist from Leigh Geary, beating sophomore goalie Kristin Cousin (South River/Edgewater, Md.) to make the score 2-0.

Frostburg State (5-11) answered right before halftime when senior Kim Dean (Hereford/Hampstead, Md.) scored off an assist from freshman Amanda Griswold (Magruder/Rockville, Md.) with 36 seconds left, to make the score 2-1 at the half.

The second half was a struggle for both teams as neither could generate much offense, with FSU taking only one shot and VJC taking two.

Cousin made five saves in net, while seniors Katie Walker (North Carroll/Hampstead, Md.) and Sarah Tipsword (McDonough/White Plains, Md.) each had defensive saves for the Bobcats.

Frostburg State returns to action on October 25th when it travels to Randolph Macon College at 1:00 p.m.
