Field Hockey Defeats Washington & Jefferson in Season Opener

FROSTBURG, MD — Sophomore Brittney Blystone (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) scored the only goal of the game in the 17th minute to give Frostburg State a 1-0 win over visiting Washington & Jefferson in field hockey action Wednesday afternoon.

The Bobcats are 1-0, while the Presidents fall to 1-3 on the season.

Freshman Allison MacKay (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and sophomore Michelle Frost (Jessup, Md./Hammond) came up with back-to-back defensive saves with just over seven minutes left in the first half to prevent W&J from scoring a goal.

Sophomore goalie Amanda Runion (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) made her first career start and had five saves in the shutout win.

The Bobcats return to action Friday as they travel to Bridgewater at 4:30 pm.
