Field Hockey Loses in Season Finale to Houghton

Houghton, N.Y. — Frostburg State lost its final game of the season to host Houghton College, 3-1, in the finals of the Houghton Postseason Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Highlanders (16-2) used three goals by senior Jana Ortiz to establish a new mark for wins in a season with 16.

Houghton jumped out early as Ortiz scored in the 8th minute to give it a 1-0 lead They continued to pressure the Bobcats in the first half but sophomore goalie Kristin Cousin (South River/Edgewater, Md.), who made 10 saves on the day, was up to the task, keeping the score 1-0 at halftime.

Ortiz then struck quickly after the half when she scored two goals in a three-minute span to give Houghton a 3-0 lead at the 45 minute mark. Senior Ashley McKenney (Bohemia Manor/Chesapeake City, Md.) got FSU (7-13) on the board two minutes later when she knocked a goal in off an assist from sophomore Tawni Buck (Perryville/Port Deposit, Md.) to make the score 3-1.
