Field Hockey Rallies Past Randolph-Macon with Late Three-Goal Spurt

ASHLAND, VA — Junior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) sparked Frostburg State's three-goal outburst in a span of 2:26 late in the second half with two goals and an assist as the Bobcats rallied past host Randolph-Macon, 4-2, Saturday afternoon.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Bobcats, who hadn't scored since their 4-3 victory over Mary Washington in their season-opener September 1.

Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Faust helped begin the scoring spree by feeding senior Cindy Reese (Westminster, Md./Westminster) for the game-tying goal with 7:12 left in the contest.

Faust then converted a pass from freshman Joanna Morelli (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) for the go-ahead goal at the 5:06 mark before capping the win just 26 seconds later off a pass from senior Katie Harrington (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert).

The Bobcats (2-3) opened a 1-0 lead less than seven minutes into the contest when junior Heather Kanowicz (Mechanicsville, Md./Leonardtown) scored off an assist from Harrington.

Randolph-Macon (2-4) pulled even at the 10:05 mark on Elizabeth Achea's goal from Carrie Brittingham, and Brittingham gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead with 2:00 remaining in the first half off an assist from Cory Wood.

Frostburg State sophomore Jessica Moore (Bowie, Md./Culpeper (Va.)) made six saves, including a stop of a penalty stroke by Brittingham in the first half, to pick up the win.

Samantha Molden stopped 12 shots for Randolph-Macon.

The Bobcats, who outshot the Yellow Jackets, 24-17, and held a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners, return to action on Wednesday when they visit Western Maryland for a 4:30 contest.
