Football Announces 2003 Schedule

FROSTBURG, MD — Frostburg State will face one of its toughest schedules in recent memory in 2003, as the Bobcats will take on a pair of 2002 NCAA Division III Playoff participants as well as two other squads that advanced to the 2001 playoffs, Athletic Director Ralph Brewer announced recently.

The Bobcats will open their season September 13 with an Atlantic Central Football Conference contest at Newport News Apprentice before kicking off their home slate September 20 against regional powerhouse Montclair State, which has appeared in the NCAA playoffs seven times.

FSU then returns to the road September 27 against Brockport State, which advanced to the national quarterfinals last year, before having an open date October 4.

The Bobcats play at ACFC rival Wesley October 11 before hosting powerhouse Widener for Homecoming October 18. The Pioneers boast a 33-4 mark over the last three years with appearances in the 2000 national semifinals and the 2001 national quarterfinals.

Frostburg State then hits the road the next two weekends, traveling to Maryville (Tenn.) October 25 and Westminster (Pa.) November 1.

The Bobcats play their third and final home game of the season November 8 against Waynesburg before closing out the regular-season November 15 against state rival and 2003 NCAA participant Salisbury in the Fifth Annual Regents Cup Game to held at Towson University.

Last season, FSU posted a 6-5 overall record, including a perfect 3-0 mark in the ACFC to win its second league title in four years.

The Bobcats dumped Salisbury, 37-7, to win their third Regents Cup crown in four years and also advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest Championship, where they fell to Johns Hopkins, 24-21.

FSU returns 16 starters, including eight on offense and eight on defense.
