Football Announces 2007 Schedule

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State football team has announced its 2007 schedule and FSU will host three games at Bobcat Stadium and will travel to Annapolis, Md. for the Ninth Annual Regents’ Cup game against rival Salisbury.

The Bobcats will play their normal four-game Atlantic Central Football Conference schedule along with Waynesburg, Westminster, Randolph-Macon and NAIA Union (Ky.). This year, the Bobcats have added Southern Virginia to their schedule.

This season’s Regents’ Cup Game has been shifted to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. after being held at Towson’s Johnny Unitas Stadium for the last five seasons.

FSU opens its 2007 season on Saturday, Sept. 8 against ACFC opponent Newport News Apprentice in Newport News, Va. at 1:00 pm. Frostburg State looks to get back on the winning track against the Builders. The Bobcats hold the series edge 9-5-1 but have dropped the last two contests.

In week number two, FSU travels to Randolph-Macon in Ashland, Va. for a 1:00 pm kickoff. The teams have met just five times prior to the upcoming season with the Yellow Jackets holding a 3-2 series lead.

Frostburg State battles league foe SUNY Brockport in week three in Brockport, N.Y. The Golden Eagles hold the series lead 10-4 and this season will be the last time the two squads meet as ACFC opponents as Brockport will join the New Jersey Athletic Conference in 2008.

Frostburg State has a bye on Sept. 29 before returning to action in Dover, Del. against nationally ranked Wesley on Oct. 6 at 1:00 pm. Wesley has been one of Division III’s most dominant teams over the last few seasons making it to the NCAA Tournament semifinals in each of the last two seasons. Despite the Wolverines recent success, the Bobcats hold a 9-5 all-time lead in the series.

FSU hosts its first game on Oct. 13 when it welcomes Southern Virginia to Bobcat Stadium for the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The game will be just the second-ever night game in Frostburg, Md. as kickoff is set for 6:00 pm.

Frostburg State continues its home stand the following week when it hosts NAIA Union (Ky.) on Homecoming (Oct. 20) at 1:00 pm. FSU won the first-ever meeting between the schools last season, 7-3, on blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown with a little over two minutes left in the game. The Bobcats love playing on Homecoming winning their last four games and five out of their last six.

FSU is back on the road for the final game in the month of October. The Bobcats travel to Westminster (New Wilmington, Pa.) on the 27th for a 1:30 pm showdown. Frostburg State is currently riding a two-game winning streak against the Titans including a 14-6 win on Homecoming last season. However, WC holds the series edge 8-3-1.

The Bobcats wrap up their 2007 campaign with Waynesburg (Nov. 3) and Salisbury (Nov. 10). FSU hosts the Yellow Jackets on Senior Day at 1:00 pm for the final home game of the season. Waynesburg leads the all-time series 26-12-1.

Frostburg State ends the season at the Ninth Annual Regents’ Cup against in-state rival SU. This season, the game will take place at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. at a time to be determined later. The Regents’ Cup game has been held in Towson for each of the last five years. The Sea Gulls lead the all-time series 18-16 having won the last three meetings.

Frostburg State enters its eighth season under the direction of Head Coach Rubin Stevenson this fall.
