Football Pounds Oberlin to End Two-Game Slide

OBERLIN, OH — Junior Edward Kearney (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall) ran for 185 yards and a pair of touchdowns and fellow junior Grant Burrough (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) tossed two touchdowns and ran for another to lead visiting Frostburg State to a 48-14 pounding of Oberlin College Saturday afternoon at Dill Field.

The Bobcats (2-2), who snapped a two-game losing skid, took the opening kickoff and marched 75 yards in just six plays, all carries by Kearney. He ripped off runs of 31 and 19 yards before capping the drive with a 12-yard scamper to give FSU a 7-0 lead just 2:12 into the contest.

FSU opened a 10-0 lead with 2:34 left in the first quarter on a 21-yard field goal by sophomore Nick Quisgard (Baltimore, Md./John Carroll). The play was set up by junior A.B. Wilson's (La Vale, Md./Allegheny) 25-yard interception return to the Oberlin 5-yard line.

The Bobcats took control of the game in the second quarter by scoring 21 points in a span of just 3:37. Kearney ran in from six yards out to make it a 17-0 contest, and Burrough connected with junior tight end Roy Olson (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) on a 53-yard scoring pass less than two minutes later to give the visitors a 24-0 advantage.

Sophomore linebacker Steven Handshoe (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) then blocked a punt on Oberlin's next possession and fellow sophomore Robert Medley (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) recovered the ball at the Yeoman 8. Burrough ran in from three yards out, and Quisgard added the fourth of his six extra points on the afternoon to put FSU ahead, 31-0.

Oberlin (1-3) found the endzone with 51 seconds left in the half when Chris Moffatt hit Scott Barker for a 17-yard touchdown pass as the Bobcats headed into the break with a 31-7 advantage.

FSU, which posted season-high's with 57 rushing attempts for 293 yards, continued to pour it on in the second half.

Burrough connected with sophomore Adam J. Snyder (Scottdale, Pa./South Moreland) for a 15-yard touchdown following a 33-yard punt return by freshman Jason McLaughlin (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) for the only scoring of the third quarter. Burrough finished 10-of-13 for 125 yards and two touchdowns.

Quisgard then booted a 32-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth stanza, and junior Tim Pearson (Baltimore, Md./Lake Clifton) capped the FSU scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run with 11:58 remaining.

Ryan Squatrito threw a four-yard touchdown pass to Greg Jaquay with 9:12 left to complete the scoring.

Wilson posted a game-high 12 tackles, while senior George O'Brien (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) added 10 stops for the Bobcats, who allowed a season-low 235 total yards.
