Foote's Hat Trick Leads Women's Soccer Past Bethany, 5-1

Frostburg, Md. ... Senior Amy Foote (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) recorded a hat trick and junior Tiffany Parker (Pasadena, Md./North East) added a pair of goals to lead Frostburg State past visiting Bethany (W.Va.) College, 5-1, Thursday afternoon.

The Bobcats improved to 4-0 on the season and are off to the best start in the program's eight-year history. The Bison fell to 1-2.

Foote put FSU on the board in the game's seventh minute when she headed home a crossing pass from the right corner by freshman Erika Neuser (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston).

Parker's first goal of the game with 5:31 left in the opening half gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. Freshman Aimee Sprague (South Yarmouth, Mass./Yarmouth) took the ball at midfield and dribbled through the Bison defense before feeding Foote, whose close-range shot was stopped by Bethany goalkeeper Leondra Thomas. But, Parker collected the rebound and found the net.

The two-goal lead was short-lived, however, as Bethany's Jenn Spencer corralled a loose ball off a corner kick by Cara Pasquinelli and put it past Bobcat sophomore Stephanie Zych (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) to cut FSU's lead in half, 2-1.

The Bobcats controlled most of the action in the second half, but missed on several scoring chances before scoring three times in the final 13 minutes.

Foote began the spurt by rolling a penalty shot off a Bison hand ball in the box into the right corner and finished her hat trick by maneuvering through two Bethany defenders and sending a left footer into the upper right corner of the net with 3:15 remaining.

Parker capped the win by sending a shot from inside the 18-yard mark into the lower corner with 53 seconds to play.

Zych (4-0) made four saves in goal for the Bobcats, who outshot Bethany, 29-5. Leondra Thomas stopped 13 shots and allowed two goals for the Bison, while Maggie Kuhn made five saves and was touched for the final three FSU goals.

Frostburg State returns to action this weekend in the Dickinson College Tournament. The Bobcats will face Lycoming on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. before taking on either Dickinson or Marymount on Sunday at 1:00 or 3:00 p.m.
