Four Bobcats Qualify for ECAC Track and Field Championships

LEWISBURG, PA — Four Frostburg State athletes qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with their performances at Saturday's 5th Annual Bucknell University Bison Open.

Junior Serena Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler) qualified for both the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes. She captured the 55-meter dash in 7.41 seconds, and her heat-winning time of 7.38 seconds met the provisional standard for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships to be held March 8-9 at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

Wheeler finished second in her 200-meter heat in a time of 27.17 seconds to qualify for the ECAC Indoor Championships to be held March 2 at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. Wheeler also ran the 400-meter dash in 1:03.88 to place sixth in her heat.

Also in the 400-meter dash, freshmen Lynnea Finch (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) ran a 1:04.06 to finish second in her heat, while classmate Mysel Abrowko (Takoma Park, Md./Blair) posted a time of 1:12.05 to place fourth in her heat.

Freshman Jen Johnson (Sykesville, Md./Northeast) ran the 200-meter dash in 32.53 seconds to place fourth in her heat, while Finch recorded a 28.03 in the event to finish second in her heat.

Finch (62.95 split), Wheeler (65.25), Abrowko (70.39) and Johnson (76.85) later teamed to place fourth in their 4x400-meter relay heat in 4:35.76.

On the men's side, juniors Dante Myles (Hyattsville, Md./Archbishop Carroll) and Karold Gray (Bowie, Md./Southern) both qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 200-meter dash.

Myles ran his heat in 22.28, the second-fastest time of the meet, while Gray turned in a 23.00 to place fifth in his heat.

Junior Tyque McCarthy (Bowie, Md./Central) just missed qualifying in the 200, posting a time of 23.39, just .05 seconds shy of the standard.

Sophomore Travis Bouldin (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) also qualified for the ECAC Championships in the triple jump, finishing third with a mark of 45-feet, five inches. Additionally, he tied for 15th in the high jump (6-0.75) and placed 25th in the long jump (19-2).

Freshman Greg Lambert (Columbia, Md./Hammond) enjoyed a solid meet, winning his 400-meter dash heat (51.68) and finishing second in his 55-meter dash heat (6.81).

FSU's 4x400-meter relay team of Gray (52.08), McCarthy (52.63), Myles (54.66) and Lambert (50.86) posted a fifth-place finish in 3:30.58.

Frostburg State is back in action on Saturday at the Colgate University Class of 32 Invitational in Hamilton, N.Y.
