In conjunction with the Allegany Arts Council, the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing of Frostburg State University, will host the fifth annual Writing and Art Workshop Saturday, March 28, from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in FSU’s Tawes Hall. This year’s event will include a new session for those interested in visual arts.

The workshop is designed for artists who need to write, creative writers who love art and lovers of art who want to learn how to write art reviews. There are three workshops taught by FSU and other regional faculty who are practicing artists and writers in their respective fields.

A workshop on Writing Art Reviews will be conducted by Gerry LaFemina, FSU professor and director of the Center for Creative Writing. The focus of the workshop is to help students learn how to attend art shows, properly critique pieces and write about the different aspect of others art.

Jennifer Merrifield, professor at Potomac State College of WVU, will conduct Art as a Muse. This workshop is geared towards learning how visual art can inspire and enhance the writing process. Students participating in this workshop are encouraged to bring pieces of their favorite art work for inspiration.

Artist Bill Dunlap will host workshop entitled “Making Art from Literature.” The workshop is designed to help students use literature as art and to write about the art they love.
