Frostburg State University Department of Music Presents FSU Wind Ensemble

The Frostburg State University Wind Ensemble will present its first concert of the fall on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center.

The concert will feature “First Suite for Military Band” by Gustav Holst. Composed in 1909, it is one of the first major pieces written exclusively for the modern-day wind band and has become a cornerstone of band literature. Another featured piece, “Century Variants” by David Gillingham, is a contemporary introduction to the symphonic band, consisting of a theme and variations that feature all sections of the band. Also on the program is “Festival Overture on America’s National Air: The Star Spangled Banner” by Dudley Buck and “America’s Bravest, America’s Finest” by Lewis Buckley, a march dedicated to the police and fire fighters who lost their lives in the tragedy of 9/11.

Admission for the concert is $5 for adults and $3 for students; children 12 and under are admitted free. For more information, contact the FSU Music Department at 301-687-4109.
