Frostburg State University Expands Regional Tuition Rate Zone to 120-Mile Radius
Center for Communications and Information Technology

FROSTBURG, Md. – Residents of Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio living within 120 miles of Frostburg State University may be eligible for a newly expanded Regional Tuition Rate that will save them about $4,600 per year over out-of-state tuition. This same regional rate previously only applied in counties contiguous to Western Maryland.

The policy will take effect for the fall semester of 2015. With the reduced tuition rate, students in the Regional Tuition Rate zone can attend FSU for a cost competitive with many in-state rates at public institutions around the region and one that is more affordable than most private institutions. The revised policy was approved by the University System of Maryland Board of Regents on April 10.

“Frostburg offers a comprehensive range of programs, each with unique opportunities for the valuable experience that comes from hands-on learning, and a University-wide emphasis on sustainability,” said FSU President Jonathan Gibralter. “With this new rate, our institution provides students across our region with access to a University System of Maryland education for an exceptional value. This is an exciting evolution for FSU and a great opportunity for prospective students in our neighboring states.”

FSU is focused on experiential learning and student leadership and offers more than 80 specialized undergraduate programs of study. A regional comprehensive university, it also offers 14 master’s degrees, as well as a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership. Its brand new Center for Communications and Information Technology includes a cutting-edge teaching television studio, technologically enhanced classrooms and the studios for campus National Public Radio-affiliate WFWM. Competing in NCAA Division III, FSU offers 21 men’s and women’s varsity sports.

“The awareness of Frostburg State University, and our strong academic programs, continues to grow in our region. This new Regional Tuition Rate will help make Frostburg a more affordable option for many students,” said Wray Blair, associate provost for Enrollment Management.
