In memory of the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., Frostburg State University will hold its annual MLK Celebration, featuring keynote speaker Anthony G. Brown, lieutenant governor of Maryland, along with musical performances and student speakers offering inspirational stories. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center.

These student stories, along with Brown’s reflections, will be a powerful and stirring tribute to Dr. King. It is also a perfect opportunity for everyone, especially student groups and organizations, to come together to show their admiration for the life and contributions of this great civil rights leader.

Brown is a Harvard-educated attorney and has been a member of the Active and Reserve Components of the United States Army since 1984. He was inaugurated as Maryland’s eighth lieutenant governor on Jan. 17, 2007. He is a former chair member of the Prince George’s Community College Board of Trustees and has traveled the state visiting community colleges and opening a dialogue with students and administrators alike. Brown has long shown a deep dedication to public service, his community, the state of Maryland and our nation.

The celebration of Martin Luther King’s life and work will be preceded by a special Harmony Walk. All who are interested are invited to meet at the FSU Clock Tower at 6 p.m. The walk will conclude at the doors of the Performing Arts Center in time for the event at 7:30 pm. There will be a small reception following the celebration in the Performing Arts Center lobby. This event is free and open to the public.
