Frostburg Summer Writing Camp for Middle Schoolers Now Accepting Applications
04/29/2016

The Frostburg State University Center for Literary Arts is accepting applications for this summer’s weeklong WordQuest: Write a Story, Write a Poem day camp in creative writing for middle school students currently enrolled in grades six to eight. The program will run from Monday to Friday, Aug. 1 to 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 22 E. Main St. in downtown Frostburg. Participants will study the arts of poetry and story writing from a dynamic group of published writers.

“WordQuest is designed to be both fun and educational, and to help young people develop a love for writing and reading. Students get the opportunity to express themselves and discover the joys of language and creating with language,” said Center Director Gerry LaFemina.

Students will learn to confidently express themselves as they develop and write their own poems and stories, exploring the Frostburg community for inspiration. They will build their works into books, which will be celebrated with a reception and reading at the Center at the conclusion of the camp.

Designed for small student-to-instructor ratios, registration in the program is limited. Cost for the week is $75, which includes snacks and instruction. Parents must register their children by Friday, July 15.

WordQuest is sponsored in part by the Allegany Arts Council, the Maryland State Arts Council and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at FSU.
