FSU Announces New Appointments for Dr. John Lowe, Bernard Wynder

FSU Announces New Appointments for Dr. John Lowe, Bernard Wynder
Frostburg State University recently appointed two long-time, dedicated members of the administration to new positions. Dr. John Lowe is now the Assistant Vice President for Student Development. Bernard Wynder is assuming the role of Assistant Vice President for Student Services. The positions take effect July 1.

Dr. Lowe has been a member of the campus community since 1970, most recently serving as Dean of Student Development. His new title reflects the expansion of his responsibilities that have occurred during the past academic year.

“John has provided valuable leadership in our efforts to more effectively confront the off-campus behavior of students and is working collaboratively with landlords, city officials, and representatives from local law enforcement agencies to achieve this goal,” said Dr. Tom Bowling, Vice President of Student & Educational Services. “His deep belief in and commitment to the development of students is evidenced in all of his work.”

In his new role, Wynder, who has most recently served as director of FSU’s Advising Center, will now assume supervisory responsibility for both the Advising Center and Career Services. Wynder first joined the staff in 1979.

“Most of the University’s remarkable record in the recruitment and retention of minority students can be attributed to Bernie’s efforts. His personal commitment to creating a welcoming learning environment for all students is known throughout this campus and throughout this state. His ability to create an atmosphere in which difficult dialogues can take place has often resulted in deeper learning for everyone,” Bowling said. “Bernie’s new responsibilities will include working with department chairs, faculty and the Office of Alumni Affairs to create additional internship and job-shadowing opportunities for our students."

Situated in the mountains of Allegany County, Frostburg State University is one of the 13 institutions of the University System of Maryland. FSU is a comprehensive, residential regional University and serves as an educational and cultural center for Western Maryland.
