FSU Center for Creative Writing Awarded Grant for One-Act Playwriting Festival
06/17/2015

The Frostburg Community Trust Foundation recently awarded a grant of $1,500 to the Frostburg State University Center for Creative Writing in support of the Frostburg One-Act Playwriting Festival, which is scheduled this year for Friday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Palace Theatre on Main Street in Frostburg.

The festival showcases the top three winning plays of the One-Act Playwriting Competition held annually in accordance with center’s mission to provide a variety of opportunities in the literary arts. This year, more than 50 plays were submitted to the competition from across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, July 15.

To be considered for the competition, writers submit their one-act plays with a running time of 40 minutes or less. Entries are judged on plot, character development, dialogue and overall quality. The first prize winner receives $750 and production of his or her play at the playwriting festival. Second and third prize winners receive $250 and $100, respectively, and staged readings of their works.

Tickets to performances of the winning plays will be available for $10 for adults and $5 for students.
