FSU Chorale to Perform Spring Concert

The Frostburg State University Chorale will perform Gioacchino Rossini’s “Petite Messe Solennelle” on Sunday, May 2, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. The University Chorale is dedicating this performance to the memory of Betty Jane Phillips, who passed away in February and was the Department of Music’s staff accompanist.

The “Petite Messe Solennelle” was composed in March 1864 for the consecration of the private chapel built by Count and Countess Alexis and Louise Pillet-Will. It was originally scored for 12 voices (four of whom performed the solos), with two pianos and harmonium providing all the instrumentation. Rossini revised the score in 1867 for soprano, alto, tenor and bass solos, four-part chorus and full orchestra.

Under the direction of Dr. Karen Soderberg, this performance will include four-part chorus with Dr. Joan DeVee Dixon on piano and Judith Brown on piano and harmonium. The vocal soloists will be Jessie Ragland, Britany Poindexter and Lauren Huyser (sopranos); Stephanie Laut and Ines Nassara (altos); Lane Conklin, Adam Pomeroy and Darren Ross (tenors); and Nathan Cook and Matthew Purnell (bass).

Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and free for children 16 and younger. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door.
