Six Frostburg State University Homecoming Court candidates representing five organizations raised a total of $4,775.46 for charities as part of FSU’s Leadership and Homecoming festivities this year.

For the seventh year in a row, candidates for FSU’s Homecoming King and Queen and the organizations they represent raised money for charities as a way to support local and national organizations in need of financial support.

Students raised the money within a three-week time frame, and the candidates were interviewed. Then the student body was given a chance to vote for the King and Queen during the days leading up to Leadership and Homecoming Weekend. The winners were selected based on the student popular vote and were crowned at the Bobcat Growl Pep Rally on Oct. 20, which kicked off the Homecoming festivities.

Sarah Thomas, representing Delta Zeta, was crowned 2011 Homecoming Queen. Her organization raised $1,696.96 for the American Cancer Society. Eric Stinchcomb of Phi Mu Delta was crowned 2011 Homecoming King. His group raised $1,101.50 for SAFE (Saving Animals From Euthanasia).

In addition to reigning over the Leadership and Homecoming Weekend, the King and Queen received the Foundation Royalty Award, $250 each given to them by the FSU Foundation, Inc.

Other participants for the 2011 Homecoming Court were:

• Jonathan Williams, representing the Student Government Association, who raised $47 for the FSU Foundation

• Mary Biscoe, also representing SGA, who also raised $47 for the FSU Foundation

• Kandice Lenhart of Alpha Sigma Alpha, who raised $1,415 for the Karsin Raine Valentine Memorial Fund

• Valerie Rivera of Alpha Sigma Tau, who raised $515 for Habitat for Humanity
