FSU International Film Series Continues with "Who the Hell is Juliet?"

Frostburg State University's 2001-2002 International Film Series continues with "Who the Hell is Juliet" on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in Lane University Center room 201. The series is sponsored by Center Stage and the Department of Student & Community Involvement.

This Mexican film by cinematographer Carlos Macovich flickers between documentary and fiction as it explores the life of Yuliet Ortega, a young "jinetera" (prostitute) from Havana he met while shooting a video starring model Fabiola Quiroz. After discovering that the two women shared a longing for an absent father, Macovich embarks on a cinematic quest contrasting Fabiola's glamorous life as a beauty icon with Juliet's matter-of-fact use of prostitution as a means of survival. The film features an impressionistic style reflecting the emotional turmoil within his characters, with brief scenes set in Cuba, Mexico, New York, New Jersey and Los Angeles.

In Spanish with English subtitles, ""Who the Hell is Juliet?" runs for about 90 minutes, and is free and open to the public. For information, contact the Lane University Center Information Desk at 301-687-4411.
