FSU Presents Faculty Achievement Awards on May 21st

Frostburg State University will present three professors with Faculty Achievement Awards during this year’s University Honors Convocation at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21, in the Drama Theatre of the campus Performing Arts Center.

This year’s recipients include Dr. Robert M. Moore III and Dr. James C. Saku for Teaching and Dr. Marthe A. McClive for University/Community Service.

Moore is an associate professor of sociology. He has been praised for encouraging his students to take ownership of the learning process. Student comments emphasize that Moore inspires others through the development of interpersonal relationships. He also serves as a coordinator for the African-American Studies program at FSU. Moore’s scholarship is combined with his passion for empowering students to aim high.

Saku, associate professor of geography, has consistently earned outstanding teaching ratings from students, who note that he makes time for them and advises them beyond the parameters of the classroom. His use of innovative teaching methods benefits his students. He is a frequent guest lecturer and past recipient of the Faculty Achievement Award in 2001 for Academic Accomplishment.

McClive, professor of management, has developed technology programs that enhanced the teaching of faculty and staff throughout the University. She has secured grant money and created programs that helped enable faculty to learn the technological skills necessary for distance learning and teaching with technology. As a result of her efforts, the university has significantly improved and updated its teaching, collaborative learning and quality on-line courses.

In addition to the Faculty Achievement Awards, the University Honors Convocation recognizes students who have earned Graduate Program Honors, Undergraduate Department Honors and Honors in General Education.
