FSU Students Honored for Artwork in Spring Student Art Show

FSU Students Honored for Artwork in Spring Student Art Show
Frostburg State University students were honored for their work in the 2011 Spring Student Art Show recently. The art show, held in the Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery, featured 78 pieces of artwork by current FSU students. The six areas of the bachelor of fine arts degree were represented: painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, illustration and sculpture.

In the two-dimensional category, Garret Minnick was awarded first place for his illustration “Mirror Image.” Robert Croft was awarded second place for his painting “Carlos” and Rachel Precht was awarded third place for her work “Skateboard Deck.” All three students are residents of Allegany County, Md., and attended Mountain Ridge High School.

In the three-dimensional category, Jodi Akers was awarded first place for a mixed media assemblage titled “Embryo.” Second place was awarded to Sarah Earing for a ceramic vessel titled “Don’t Hurt Yourself Kid,” and third place was awarded to Artemis Constantinou for his sculpture, “Throne of Suffering.”

Dennis Sherald, local artist and educator, was the judge for the exhibition and commented on the quantity and quality of the artwork submitted. Sherald also acknowledged the following students for honorable mention: Heather Reedy for “Octopus Garden,” Joshua Gambetta for “For the Greater Good,” Alyssa Dick for a ceramic vase, Nancy Frost for “Swings,” Lindsay Crabtree for “First Day of College” and Abigail Rice for “Mr. Fox Goes on an Adventure.”
