FSU to Hold Mathematics Symposium

The 34th Frostburg State University Mathematics Symposium will be held on the FSU campus on Friday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Under its ongoing theme, “Teaching, Learning, Exploring,” the Symposium is designed to serve mathematics educators at all levels and attracts over 100 mathematics teachers from the tri-state area. The featured speaker for this year’s meeting is Patrick Vennebush, editor of the popular “Media Clips” column in NCTM’s “Mathematics Teacher” journal. Vennebush will speak on “Developing Algebraic Thinking with Real-World Algebra.”

In addition, the Symposium will feature talks on geometry, mathematics in sports, statistics, mathematics pedagogy and other topics of interest. Among the speakers are FSU professors Marc Michael, Lance Revennaugh, Vaughn Snyder, Edward White and Gerard Wojnar.

The Mathematics Symposium is supported by grants from the FSU Provost’s Office and the FSU Faculty Development Subcommittee.
