FSU to Host a “Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration”

In memory of the life and accomplishments of Martin Luther King, Jr., Frostburg State University will hold its annual “MLK Celebration,” a joyous evening of music, song and reflection, celebrating freedom and equality, on Tuesday, April 19, at 7 p.m., in the Pealer Recital Hall of the FSU Performing Arts Center.

The “MLK Celebration” is a multi-media event, featuring the images of Dr. King, along with special readings, reflections and performances by FSU musical groups to commemorate the life of this fearless Civil Rights leader.

FSU’s United Gospel Voices Under God’s Dominion, conducted by Dr. Susan Mills, will perform “Thula Sizwe” and “Kwangena Thi Na,” two Zulu songs that were sung during the reign of the Apartheid in South Africa. Both hold messages of inspiration and freedom. The FSU Chamber Choir, conducted by Dr. Karen Soderberg-Sarnaker, will present “Oh Freedom,” an African-American spiritual about hope during oppression, and “True Light,” which will be accompanied by projected images of Dr. King.

The evening will also feature videos of FSU student reflections. In addition, FSU students will present readings of both essays and poetry.

Please join this special celebration, which is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the FSU Office of the Provost at 301-687-4211.
