FSU to Host Poet Carolyne Wright

The Frostburg State University Center for Creative Writing and the FSU English Department will present renowned poet Carolyne Wright on Monday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the campus Lane University Center, room 142.

Wright’s collection of poetry, “Seasons of Mangoes and Brainfire,” was awarded with the Blue Lynx Prize, American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation and the Oklahoma Book Award in Poetry. She also achieved international recognition from her work “The Road to Isla Negra” based on her experiences in Chile on a Fulbright study grant. She spent four years in Calcutta and Dhaka, Bangladesh, where she collected and translated material for her forthcoming anthology “Majestic Nights: Love Poems by Bengali Women” and is also a translation editor for the literary journal “Artful Dodge.” Wright graduated from Seattle University’s Humanities Honors Program and went on to receive a Doctorate in English and Creative Writing from Syracuse University.

Wright is one of many writers expected to be in FSU’s fall reading line up. Fiction writer Charles Baxter will read on Oct. 10 and non-fiction writer Cynthia Huntington will be on campus Nov. 3.

The reading, sponsored by FSU Office of Students and Community Involvement and Main Streets Books, is free and open to the public and will be followed by a book signing and reception.
