FSU to Present Reading by Poet Ellen Bryant Voigt

The Frostburg Center for Creative Writing and the English Department at Frostburg State University welcome poet Ellen Bryant Voigt for a reading Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m., in Frostburg’s Lane University Center Room 201.

A recipient of the 67th Academy of the American Poets Fellowship, Voigt is the author of seven books of poetry. Her most recent collection is “Messenger: New and Selected Poems 1976-2006.” Her other works include “Shadow of Heaven” (2002), a finalist for the National Book Critic’s Circle Award; “Two Trees” (1992); “The Lotus Flowers” (1987); “The Forces of Plenty” (1983); and “Claiming Kin” (1976).

Voigt lives in Cabot, Vt., where she had the honor of being the Vermont State Poet from 1999 to 2003. She has received grants from the Vermont Council of Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation and was appointed the Chancellor of The Academy of American Poets in 2003.

Voigt’s reading is the first in one of the finest FSU reading series to date. Renowned poet Ann Hood will follow her on Oct. 23.
