FSU Welcomes Godfather of Creative Nonfiction Lee Gutkind

Frostburg State University and the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing present nonfiction writer Lee Gutkind Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Lyric Theater, 22 E. Main St., in Frostburg. The reading is free and open to the public.

Gutkind has been called “the Godfather of creative nonfiction” by Vanity Fair and has written and edited over 20 books of nonfiction, including two memoirs, “Forever Fat: Essays by the Godfather” and “Truckin’ With Sam.” Creative Nonfiction, a magazine he founded, is the first and largest magazine that exclusively publishes creative nonfiction. He is also writer-in-residence in the Consortium for Science and Policy and Outcomes, as well as a professor in the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University. Gutkind has traveled the world, in places like China, the Czech Republic, Australia, Africa and recently Egypt, giving lectures about various topics, such as child psychology, pediatrics, personalized medicine, baseball and the world wide storytelling expansion.
