FSU Will Offer Wind and Solar Energy Education Program

The Frostburg State University Renewable Energy Center is offering the sixth session of the WISE workshop on “Design, Installation and Maintenance of Residential Wind and Solar Generation Systems.” Registration for the fall 2010 session will be available online until Oct. 3. Space is limited, and enrollment is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program consists of an eight-week online component from Oct. 11 to Dec. 5, as well as a hands-on component to prepare attendees for the PV Entry-Level Certificate of Knowledge Exam administered by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. The hands-on part of the program will be conducted on the FSU campus from Dec. 10 to 12. Interested attendees can take the NABCEP PV Entry-Level Exam of Knowledge on Dec. 12 between 2 and 4 p.m.

Attendees can have discussions with experienced professionals from the photovoltaic and wind industry and install practical examples such as a grid tie PV array and battery backup wind generator during the on-site part of the program. The program was developed in 2008 with funding provided by the Appalachian Regional Commission. Since spring 2008, the program has served about 200 attendees from 15 states and three foreign countries. For more information, visit or contact the program director, Hilkat Soysal, at
