FSU’s Center for Creative Writing to Host Reading by Author Kij Johnson
Frostburg State University’s Center for Creative Writing will host a reading by science fiction author Kij Johnson on Tuesday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyric Theater at 20 E. Main St. in Frostburg. The reading is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

Johnson has taught writing and science fiction writing at Louisiana State University and at the University of Kansas, where she is the associate director of the Center for the Study of Science Fiction. She was an instructor at the 2011 Clarion Writers Workshop and plans to speak at the 2012 Alpha Workshop for Young Writers of Speculative Fiction. She has worked as managing editor of Tor Books, Wizards of the Coast and Real Networks, and as special editions editor for Dark Horse Comics. Johnson’s short story collection, “At the Mouth of the River of Bees,” featuring slipstream, a sub-genre of science fiction, as well as fantasy and science fiction, will be published in the summer of 2012. The novelist has written medieval Japanese novels, including “The Fox Woman,” winner of the Crawford Award, and “Fudoki,” a finalist for the World Fantasy Award. Her short stories have been nominated repeatedly for the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy and Sturgeon awards.
