FSU’s Colleges Against Cancer Wins Prestigious Award

The Frostburg State University chapter of Colleges Against Cancer recently won a prestigious regional award from the South Atlantic Division of the American Cancer Society. The chapter won second place in the Collegiate Challenge. The students of FSU have reached 78 percent of their goals to date, including the number of participants and teams recruited for the event, Relay for Life, which will be held at FSU’s Bobcat Stadium on April 24.

The FSU College Against Cancer chapter previously won the Best Survivor Program of the Year in 2007 for their Faculty/Staff Breakfast of Champions, which honored cancer survivors and those that have been closely affected by the disease. In the same division, FSU students won CAC Chapter of the Year in 2008 for their Relay for Life program and its outstanding projects in cancer education, advocacy and survivorship.

This year, Tonecia Hargrove, FSU CAC President, along with other student leaders, are hoping to bypass last year’s success with Relay for Life. Last year, FSU raised $34,000 and a goal of $40,000 has been set for this year’s event.
