FSU’s Jeff Pomerantz to Perform Junior Guitar Recital

Frostburg State University student Jeff Pomerantz will present his junior guitar recital on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.

Pomerantz will perform “Once Upon a Rainy Day,” by Jubing Kristianto’s and “Michelle” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. He will also perform Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedie No. 1,” Heitor Villa Lobos’ “Prelude No. 4” and “Etude No. 11” and Francisco Taregga’s “Adelita.”

Joined by guitarists Stephen Tunstall, Zach Dodge and Robert Wallace, Pomerantz will present Phillip Houghton’s “Opals,” a musical interpretation of the different types of opals. The first movement, “Black Opals,” gives impressions of dazzling and fiery color. The second movement, “Water Opals,” has languid tones and soft golpo thuddings. The final movement, “White Opals,” gives a sense of charming, shimmery murmurs of color.

Pomerantz is studying classical guitar with Tunstall, an FSU instructor, and is a member of the General Production and Marketing Team for FSU Cultural Events Series. He graduated from Kent Island High School and is the son of Joe and Donna Pomerantz of Stevensville, Md. He expects to graduate from FSU in May 2012 with a bachelor’s in music management and a minor in business. Pomerantz plans to work in the music production and promotion/marketing field.
