FSU’s Savage Mountain Arts Academy Invites Public to Free Musical Performances

The Savage Mountain Summer Arts Academy’s Wind Chamber Music Institute at Frostburg State University invites the public to enjoy free musical performances Aug. 3 and Aug. 4 in the FSU Performing Arts Center’s Pealer Recital Hall. The Faculty Wind Quintet concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3. Audiences can enjoy the emerging talents of young musicians the following day at the 2 p.m. during the Chamber Music Institute Student Recital.

“Chamber music is considered by many to be some of the most beautiful and challenging music literature ever written,” Artistic Director Mark Gallagher said. “These two performances are a unique opportunity for audiences to hear highly accomplished faculty, as well as the results of an intense week of study and preparation by the Chamber Music Institute students.”

The Aug. 3 concert features works by Persichetti, Arnold, Mozart, Cernantes and Klughardt performed by several faculty members, including Kristin Bacchiocchi-Stewart, flute; Suzanne Geoffrey, oboe; Mark Gallagher, clarinet; Lin Foulk, horn; and Christopher Jewell, bassoon.

The student recital includes noted works performed by high school music students who will prepare for this special end-of-camp concert by rehearsing three times a day and participating in instrument masterclasses at FSU’s Wind Chamber Music Institute July 29 through Aug. 4.
