FSU’s Tim Powell to Perform Faculty Saxophone Recital

Frostburg State University Department of Music’s Faculty Artist Series presents Tim Powell performing a saxophone recital at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, in FSU’s Performing Arts Center Pealer Recital Hall. Joining Powell will be guest pianist Jessica Stitt.

The program will include pieces by Denis Bédard, David Maslanka, Paule Maurice, Rodney Rogers and Ida Gotkovsky.

Powell, originally from the Philadelphia area, established himself as an active freelance musician in the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan areas. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Pennsylvania State University, where he won numerous scholarship competitions and the orchestra concerto competition as a classical saxophonist. Powell received his Master of Music degree in jazz studies from the University of Maryland, College Park, and is currently working towards a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance. His principle teachers include M. Dan Yoder, David Stambler and Chris Vadala.

Powell is currently on faculty at FSU where he teaches applied saxophone, music appreciation, beginning jazz theory and improvisation and saxophone quartet; he also directs the jazz ensemble. His accomplishments include performances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Gloria Gaynor, Ben Folds, Frankie Avalon, the Steve Fidyk Big Band and Frank Sinatra, Jr.
