Golf Takes Third, Fifth at FSU Invitational

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Frostburg State golf team took home third and fifth place in split squad action as they hosted the FSU Invitational Thursday at Maplehurst Country Club.

McDaniel was the top finisher out of the eight-team field with a 334 followed by Pitt-Bradford with a 336. The FSU white team shot a 342 to capture third. Penn State Altoona was fourth with a 354 while the FSU red team posted a 372 to land in fifth place. Lake Erie took home sixth with a 374, Mt. Aloysius was seventh with a 394 and Pitt-Greensburg was eighth with a 422.

Junior Ian Umphrey (Huntingtown, Md./Calvert) was the leader of the white team, finishing second overall with an 80. Classmate James Avampato (Havre De Grace, Md./Aberdeen) recorded an 84 to place seventh, while sophomore Sean Buenger (Westminster, Md./Westminster) shot an 88 to finish 17th. Sophomore Joe Eaton (Baltimore, Md./Pikesville) was 18th with a 90 and freshman Ian Estabrook (Kensington, Md./Einstein) tied for 19th with a 91.

The red squad was led by sophomore Nathan Jackson (Midlothian, Md./Beall), who fired an 86 to finish tied for 10th overall. Freshmen Hunter Mink (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and Chip Sanderson (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) each shot 94 to tie for 22nd overall. Freshman Brent Walker (Frostburg, Md./Beall) shot a 98 (29th) and freshman Jack Lipps (Elkton, Md./Elkton) shot a 102 (32nd).
