Italian Historian to Speak on the Fall of Fascism

Maria Gabriella Pasqualini, a distinguished Italian historian and policy analyst, will lecture at Frostburg State University about “The BBC and the Fall of Fascism and the Victory of the Allies in World War II” on Thursday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Compton Science Center room 224. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Pasqualini specializes in modern military history and in the institutions and security issues of the Middle East and the Mediterranean region. She is a member of the political science faculty at the University of Perugia and Palermo where she teaches history and institutions of the Middle East. She also teaches the history of the Middle East and Central Asia in the Advanced Carabinieri Officers College in Rome and teaches graduate programs on the Mediterranean at the University of Cassino and the Italian Army Advanced Studies Institute for Officers.

Her experience has included service as Cultural Counselor in the Italian Embassy in Iran at the time of the Iranian Revolution, and later at Italian embassies in France and Mexico; assistant tot he vice president of the Italian Senate; and vice president of the Consultative Committee of the Defense General Chief of Staff.

Professor Pasqualini's visit is sponsored by the FSU Department of History. In addition to her public lecture, she will lead a faculty round-table seminar on the sources of stability and instability in the Middle East and visit FSU classrooms.
