Lacrosse Extends Winning Streak to Six with Win Over Fredonia

ORLANDO, FL — In its sixth straight win this season, Frostburg State used eight first-half goals and four second-half tallies to defeat Fredonia 12-6 Wednesday afternoon in Orlando, Florida.

The Blue Devils got on the board fast with their first tally at 2:57 followed by another at 4:18.

The Bobcats (6-0) notched their first goal at the six-minute mark when sophomore Kelley Duncan (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, Md.) found the net off an assist from junior Page Macey (North County/Linthicum, Md.).

Duncan tied the game at 2-2 when she scored again at 12:26 off an assist from sophomore Stefanie Ritz (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, Md.). In the 13th minute, Ritz notched the score to 3-2 off an assist from sophomore Kate Nicol (Glenelg/Mt. Airy, Md.). At 14:56 Macey scored the first of her five goals on a free position shot.

In the 15th minute, freshman Brittany Brumby (Quince Orchard/Gaithersburg, Md.) tallied the first of her two goals.

Macey found the net again off an assist from junior Angela Munro (John Carroll(Harford CC)/Bel Air, Md.).

Fredonia answered with another goal in the 23rd minute, but Macey tallied goal number three less than 10-seconds later off an assist from Duncan, before Duncan capped first-half scoring with a tally at 28:06 to enter the intermission with an 8-3 Bobcat lead.

Brumby opened second-stanza action with a goal at 35:23 off an assist from Ritz.

In the 40th minute, Macey found the net again off an assist from junior Caitlin Howley (Damascus/Damascus, Md.). Fredonia tallied a goal in the 41st minute, but shortly after, Ritz found her second goal on the day at 42:40 off an assist from Nicol.

The Blue Devils notched another goal at 52:18, but Macey capped Bobcat scoring with her final tally at the 58-minute mark. Fredonia netted one more goal in the last minute, but was not enough to halt the 12-6 Bobcat victory.

Bobcat senior Sarah Shockley (Fallston/Fallston, Md.) made 13 saves on the day for the win and sophomore Meghan Norris (Hereford/White Hall, Md.) saw second-half action and made one save.

Frostburg State returns to action Sunday, March 28 when it hosts Wittenberg University in its season opener at 11:00 am.
