Lacrosse Downs Christopher Newport in Season Opener

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team bested host Christopher Newport Saturday afternoon to clinch its first win of the season. The Bobcats, led by a hat trick from junior Page Macey, were never threatened by the Lady Captains en route to the 9-2 victory that also served as the head coaching debut of Nicole Bonvouloir.

The Bobcats (1-0) scored six goals in the first half and three in the second.

Scoring for the Red and Black were junior Page Macey (North County/Linthicum, Md.) with three, sophomore Kate Nicol (Glenelg/Mt. Airy, Md.) with two, and freshman Brittany Brumby (Quince Orchard/Gaithersburg, Md.), sophomores Kelley Duncan (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, Md.) and Stefanie Ritz (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, Md.) and junior Caitlin Howley (Damascus/Damascus, Md.) each with one.

The contest was also the first for Nicole Bonvouloir as the new head coach. Bonvouloir, who served as the lacrosse team's assistant coach the last two years, was happy to start with a "W".

"We had the first-half jitters," said Bonvouloir. "We were happy to open our season with a win and I look forward to seeing our team improve with more competition."

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow when they face host Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 pm.
