Lacrosse Drops Season-Finale to St. Mary's

FROSTBURG, MD — Sophomore Carol Schmoeller scored three goals, and sophomore Kate Story added two goals and two assists to lead No. 4 St. Mary's College of Maryland to an 11-4 victory over Frostburg State in the regular-season finales for both schools Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Field.

The Seahawks, who improved to 18-0, are a lock to receive a berth to the NCAA Division III National Tournament, while the Bobcats ended their season at 6-8.

St. Mary's got on the board quickly, as Schmoeller found the net just over five minutes into the game. Story then scored consecutive goals to give the Seahawks a 3-0 lead.

Bobcat freshman Page Macey (Linthicum, Md./North County) answered less than a minute later for her 52nd goal of the year. She finishes just four goals shy of the single-season school record of 56 set by Laura Hemmings in 1999.

The Seahawks began pulling away in the final 10 minutes of the first half, notching three goals in a span of 3:35. Schmoeller found the net at the 9:21 mark, and sophomore Megan McFall added back-to-back goals to give the visitors a 6-1 halftime lead.

FSU freshman Caitlin Howley (Damascus, Md./Damascus) recorded her 14th goal of the season at the 27:56 mark to bring the Bobcats to within four, but St. Mary's scored three straight times to open a 9-2 advantage.

Senior Adey Ntam (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) added a goal in the final game of her career to make it a 9-3 Seahawk lead with 19:10 to play.

Junior Andrea Duffy (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) capped FSU's scoring with her career-high 19th goal of the year. Senior Kathy Holmes recorded the final two tallies for St. Mary's.

Seahawk sophomore Jen Chumley made 12 saves, while Bobcat sophomore Sarah Shockley (Fallston, Md./Fallston) stopped 19 shots.

FSU seniors Melissa Lennon and Paula Morgan were also playing in the final game of their careers. Additionally, the Bobcats honored senior Danielle Foote, who did not play due to an injury she suffered earlier this season.
