Lacrosse Pounds Wittenberg

FROSTBURG, MD — Junior Andrea Duffy (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored six goals and added two assists, and senior Melissa Lennon (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) scored four times as Frostburg State pounded visiting Wittenberg, 18-3, Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats (3-1) took control early, scoring three times in the opening five minutes. Freshman Melissa Tomko (Laurel, Md./Pallotti) began the spurt with an assist from Duffy at the 25:13 mark, and Lennon and freshman Page Macey (Linthicum, Md./North County) added consecutive tallies to give FSU a 3-0 lead.

Lennon and Macey then added back-to-back goals before Duffy scored three straight times to put the Bobcats ahead, 8-0, with 5:35 left in the first half.

Freshman Caitlin Howley (Damascus, Md./Damascus) tacked on another goal 1:29 later, and Duffy added her fourth tally with five seconds remaining in the opening stanza as FSU took a commanding 10-0 lead at the break.

The Bobcats kept their offensive attack rolling in the second half. Duffy capped her scoring spree with two goals in the opening 4:49 of the period, and Lennon later added consecutive scores less than a minute apart as FSU extended its lead to 16-0.

Junior Katie Binder (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) then scored her first goal of the year off an assist from freshman Courtney Bayless (Baltimore, Md./Mercy), and Bayless completed her five-point game with a free-position tally with 6:37 to play to give the Bobcats an 18-0 bulge.

Wittenberg (2-2) scored three late goals, as junior Cara Romanowski found the net twice and sophomore Kate Willitson scored once.

Bayless finished with two goals and three assists, while Macey had two goals and two assists. Senior Adey Ntam (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) added a goal and an assist.

Bobcat sophomore Sarah Shockley (Fallston, Md./Fallston) made five saves for the victory.

Tiger junior Rebecca Russ allowed six goals in the first 13:51 before leaving the game with an injury. Sophomore defender Katie Babcock took over in goal and surrendered 13 goals.

Frostburg State returns to action on Tuesday when it visits Roanoke at 4:00 p.m.
