Martin Named AMCC Softball Player of the Week For Second Time This Season

PITTSBURGH — Frostburg State freshman Ashley Martin (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Softball Player of the Week Monday.

It is her second AMCC weekly honor of the season and marks the fourth time in five weeks that a Bobcat player has earned the award.

Martin helped lead FSU to a 4-0 week by hitting .400 (6-for-15) with two doubles, a triple and two home runs while driving in 14 runs.

Martin, who is riding a 10-game hitting streak, leads the Bobcats with a .423 batting average, 30 hits, 11 doubles, four home runs, a school-record tying 33 RBIs and an .803 slugging percentage.

She is also tied for the team lead with two triples and ranks second with 22 runs scored.

"Ashley started the season off strong and then hit a little dry spell, but she's gotten back into an impressive groove," said FSU head coach Chris Starke. "She's been a key to our recent success with 19 RBI in her last seven games, and she's just knocking the ball all around the park with confidence."

The Bobcats, who have won a school-record seven straight, are 13-8 overall and sit third in the AMCC at 7-3.

FSU will close out its league schedule when it hosts first-place La Roche (22-4-1, 9-1 AMCC) on Saturday, April 26 at 1:00 pm.
