Meet Children’s Author George Ella Lyon at “Frostburg’s Pirates Ahoy”!
Celebrated children’s author George Ella Lyon will speak to children in her Pirate Den on Wednesday, July 11, at the Palace Theater on Main Street in Frostburg, part of “Frostburg’s Pirates Ahoy.” The event is free and open to the public.

The City of Frostburg will once again be the site of a pirate invasion as the Children’s Literature Centre at Frostburg State University and Frostburg First team up to provide a day of pirate merriment, tales and treats.

Lyon is an accomplished author who has published in many genres, including picture books, poetry, juvenile novels and articles. She grew up with a love of poetry and music. Lyon has published 22 picture books, including “The Pirate of Kindergarten” and “Sleepsong.”

Buccaneer activities, including crafts and a treasure-hunt, will take place throughout the day, beginning with registration at 9:30 a.m. at City Place on Water Street and the Palace Theatre. Visiting pirates will be challenged to discover the secret pirates’ den, where pirate stories and songs will be shared. All are encouraged to dress as pirates.

Frostburg businesses and restaurants will be open, with special bargains for visiting buccaneers.
