Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Penn State Behrend

ERIE, PA — Penn State Behrend had three players score in double figures as the Lions defeated visiting Frostburg State 50-47 in men's basketball action Saturday evening at the Junker Center.

The Bobcats (3-3, 1-1) outscored the Lions 11-0 over a seven minute stretch, to take a 42-41 lead with just under five minutes remaining in the game.

Penn State Behrend (2-4, 1-1) then took the lead for good 43-42, when Tom Lulich drained a pair of free throws 30 seconds later.

At the 2:49 mark, red-shirt junior Kamillo Rosenthal (Munich, Germany/Bishop Sullivan) stole the ball and made a layup to cut the Lion lead to one, 45-44.

Sophomore Antione McCall (Essex, Md./Eastern Tech) made a layup with 47 seconds left to cut the PSB lead to 50-47. Behrend’s Justin Jennings gave the Bobcats one last chance with a turnover under 10 seconds left but red-shirt freshman Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) missed a game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation.

FSU fell behind by as many as 10 points, 23-13, with just over six minutes until halftime. With 2:19 left, Rosenthal cut the deficit to five points on a layup before Behrend would extend the lead back to seven points at halftime 29-22.

Rosenthal led the Bobcats with 15 points on 7-11 shooting while McCall chipped in eight points. Junior Steve Coursey (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) had a team-high five rebounds with junior Dan Ryley (Frederick, Md./St. John's Prospect Hall), Owen and Jason Peterson (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen (Harford CC)) each grabbing four.

Jared Clough led the Lions with 12 points as Lulich and Cam Mascara scored 11 and 10 points respectively. Doug Merski grabbed a game high nine rebounds.

The Bobcats return to action Wednesday as they travel to Salisbury at 7:00 pm.
