Men's Basketball Downs Villa Julie For Third Straight Win

FROSTBURG, MD — Junior Pierre Bowery (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) scored a game-high 25 points, and senior Sean Brown (Baltimore, Md./North County) added 13 points and eight rebounds to lead Frostburg State to a 93-76 win over Villa Julie Thursday night at Bobcat Arena.

Bowery, who has led the Bobcats in scoring in each of the last 14 games, had 18 points in the second half as FSU stretched a 40-30 halftime lead to as many as 21, 54-33, with just under 16 minutes remaining.

Bowery added six rebounds, five steals and three assists to go along with several thundering dunks.

Freshman Kamillo Rosenthal (Munich, Germany/Catholic (Va.)) added 10 points, while sophomore Ryan Grabill (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) recorded five points, seven assists and a career-high 10 rebounds.

Frostburg State (10-9), on its second three-game winning streak of the season, raced out to an 11-0 lead in the first three minutes. Villa Julie closed to within 15-8 before the Bobcats used a 10-2 run to take a 25-10 lead at the 8:51 mark.

The Mustangs (8-11) cut their deficit to eight points on three occasions later in the first half, but Brown sank a jumper to cap the scoring in the opening stanza and give the Bobcats a 40-30 lead at intermission.

Frostburg State pulled away with a 12-3 run to begin the second half and led by double-digits the rest of the game.

Bowery scored eight points in a 12-4 stretch midway through the second period, and his dunk with 3:42 left put the Bobcats comfortably in front, 82-62.

Brian Hubbard paced Villa Julie with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Chad Gibson and Mike Kastanakis added 15 and 14 points, respectively. Aaron Quander grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds before fouling out.

Frostburg State will host Penn State Behrend in a pivotal Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

The Bobcats are 5-2 in league play, while the Lions are 6-2. FSU will look to avenge a 66-57 road loss to Behrend earlier this month.
