Men's Basketball Falls to Lincoln in Consolation of F&M Tournament

LANCASTER, PA — Jake Royal scored a game-high 37 points and Lincoln overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to hand Frostburg State a 76-66 loss in the consolation game of the 2002 Franklin & Marshall Lancaster Rotary Tip-Off the New Year Tournament Friday night at the Mayser Center.

Royal hit 14-of-22 shots, including 7-of-14 from three-point range to send the Bobcats (5-6) to their third straight loss.

Frostburg State junior Pierre Bowery (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) scored 20 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.

Senior Sean Brown (Baltimore, Md./North County) added 16 points, 5 steals and 4 assists.

The Bobcats led, 37-35, at halftime despite shooting just 10-of-34 (29.4%) from the field. FSU helped its cause by sinking 13-of-19 from the foul line.

However, FSU managed only 12-of-36 shooting in the second 20 minutes of play and was outscored, 41-29. The Bobcats shot a season-low 31.4 percent (22-of-70) for the game.

Junior A.J. Ernst (Minster, Ohio/Minster) added 11 points for the Bobcats, who held a 47-39 advantage in rebounds.

Fareed Burton scored 13 points for Lincoln, which survived 24 turnovers.

Frostburg State returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Pitt-Greensburg in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest at 8 p.m. at Bobcat Arena.
